Cloud Host Dispatches - Episode 356

Here’s what our cloud hosts had to say about this week’s episode: 356: Holy Labor Displacement, Batman! The Vatican Weighs In

Justin Brodley

The pope weighed in on the AI disruption happening in the world, and it’s not often that my day job and religion intersect. But the future implications of AI on human jobs, and really what many people consider to be their identities, will be an interesting thing to watch unfold. There are multiple schools of thought on this. I had a chance to see Zack Kass give a talk on the subject, and he recently published a book, The Next RenAIssance: AI and the Expansion of Human Potential. His claim to fame is that he was OpenAI’s Head of Go-To-Market, building the sales and partnerships teams that brought ChatGPT to the world, so he had a front-row seat to what the art of the possible could be with this technology. He has some great stories in the book, along with his theories on the impact AI will have on the world.
I’m not sure AI is any different from previous technology leaps, where old jobs go away but new ones fill their place and the nature of work itself changes.
I’m not an expert in this area. I’m along for the ride like everyone else, but it can be a little scary.
